Motovun

A typical hilltop Italian town with a church designed by the great architect Palladio. There is an international film festival in August and the town has several good restaurants and great views. Nearby is the small town of Groznjan which is full of small art galleries and craft shops.

The local centre is Buje which is situated between the rivers Mirna and Dragonja, this latter river being the border with Slovenija. The countryside is full of excellant vineyards and olive groves. Brtonigla about 10 kilometres south of Buje is the only "Citta del Vino" outside Italy and produces the best wine in the region.
